Guber aspirant advocates backward integration for Anambra industries

An African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship aspirant, in the forthcoming Anambra election Mr Afam Ezenwafor, has advocated backward integration to boost local industries in the state.

Ezenwafor made the call during a visit to Innoson Vehicle Motors (IVM) manufacturing facility on Saturday in Nnewi.

He said industrialisation and education were the centre-piece of his blueprint for the development of the state.

“The survival, growth and expansion of our domestic industries are extremely necessary for the reduction of unemployment and poverty, and invariably checking insecurity in our state.

“If I am elected governor, my administration will formulate the right policies, partner and collaborate closely with industrialists and manufacturers to promote economies of scale, and seamless synergy that will evolve a sustainable enabling environment in the state,” he said.

According to him, Nigeria’s educational system needs to be reformed for optimal result.

He said there was the need to redesign the curricula and pedagogy to maximise young people’s innate talents and potential as well as build their capacity.

“There is a need for acquisition of education that is need-based and demand-driven, which produces entrepreneurs, employers and eliminates a mismatch between skills acquired and those needed to function optimally at workplaces.

“This will go a long way in reducing jobless schoolleavers and graduate unemployment in the state,” Ezenwafor said.

He said his development plan for the state is hinged on effective partnership and functional collaboration “to navigate the Anambra state of our dream.”

Ezenwafor promised to position manufacturers and industrialists as major stakeholders in the education system, especially in the areas of curricula design, resource sharing and availing their facilities for hands-on training.

Responding, the Group Chairman of IVM, Chief Innocent Chukwuma, expressed happiness with the visit and insights provided by the ADC’s governorship aspirant, especially in the areas of industrialisation and education.

Chukwuma said the multiplier effects and synergy could trigger development in other sectors of the state.

He lauded the aspirant’s focal vision, courage, determination, and strong will to re-write the history of the state, and prayed to God to guide and see him through the electioneering process.
