Governor Umo Eno approves ₦2.5bn for agriculture, outlines major power reforms

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno has approved ₦2.5bn for developmental projects in the agriculture sector in the state.

The Governor made this known during the March Projects Delivery Meeting at the Government House in Uyo on Tuesday.

During the session, the Governor emphasized the progress of 86 priority projects across the state and directed the formation of an inter-ministerial committee specifically tasked with completing and commissioning several Youth Friendly Centres.

The Governor approved the ₦2.5 billion sum for the procurement of over 620,000 palm seedlings. These seedlings are earmarked for distribution to registered farmers across all 31 Local Government Areas as part of a strategic effort to enhance agricultural productivity and long-term economic growth.

The Governor further noted that a formal launch for this initiative would be announced shortly, signaling a tree crop revolution within the state.

Addressing the challenges in the energy sector, the Governor outlined a clear roadmap for Akwa Ibom to take full ownership of its power market through ongoing legislative and structural reforms.

While acknowledging that current supply issues are tied to broader national generation deficits, he assured residents that the state is actively engaging with key stakeholders to secure improved electricity for its citizens.

The meeting also featured an extensive review of 55 ongoing projects, including the Ibom International Convention Centre, the 350-bed International Hospital, and the Arise Shopping City.

A report from the Commissioner for Works further confirmed that an additional batch of 10 roads, covering 58.5 kilometers, has been completed and is scheduled for commissioning in May 2026.

Top government functionaries and stakeholders, including former Deputy Governor Obong Nsima Ekere, lauded the Governor for his prudent management of resources and his disciplined approach to project delivery across the state.
