Governor Adeleke, Davido visit Wike after Osun election victory

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke on Thursday paid a visit to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, in Abuja, as he continued consultations following his re-election.

Adeleke’s singer nephew David, popularly known as Davido, was also in the company.

A photograph of the meeting, shared on X by Wike’s media aide, Lere Olayinka, showed Adeleke and the FCT minister shaking hands while both held the governor’s certificate of return. Olayinka captioned the image: “Governor Ademola Adeleke visits the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.”

The visit came hours after Adeleke held a closed-door meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa. It was not immediately clear if Davido was part of the Aso Rock delegation.

Adeleke arrived at the Villa around 5:20pm to 5:25pm in traditional attire, accompanied by the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, and several Osun State officials, including his campaign director-general and chief of staff.

During the meeting, the governor presented his certificate of return and thanked the President for the peaceful conduct of the August 15 governorship election.

Adeleke, who contested on the platform of the Accord Party, was declared winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission after polling 511,067 votes.

He defeated the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who scored 444,815 votes, and won in 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas.

Speaking briefly to State House correspondents after the meeting, Adeleke said Tinubu deserved commendation for allowing the electoral process to run its course without interference.

He said his visit was mainly to thank the President, whom he described as the “father of the nation”, for respecting democracy.

“Yeah, that is why I’m here to thank Mr President, the father of the nation, because he fought for this democracy.

“That is why he allowed free and fair election, and that is the result. That is why I’m here, to say thank you to ensure that democracy lives in Nigeria,” the governor said.
