Gov Yusuf flags-off 5km road project in Gaya, vows to end water scarcity

Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has flagged off the construction of a five-kilometre road network in Gaya Emirate as part of efforts to modernise the ancient town and boost socio-economic activities.
This was contained in a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, on Thursday.
Governor Yusuf commissioned the project on Wednesday at the palace of the Emir of Gaya, shortly after paying homage to Alhaji Aliyu Ibrahim Abdulkadir.
He charged the construction firm handling the project to ensure full compliance with the contractual specifications so that the road will stand the test of time.
The Governor explained that the road, upon completion, will be fitted with solar-powered streetlights and equipped with proper drainage systems on both sides.
He added that the drainages would be covered with interlocking tiles to enhance the aesthetics of the road and make it comparable to those in modern cities.”
Governor Yusuf also assured the Emir and residents that his administration is working to resolve the water scarcity affecting the area, disclosing that a technical survey is underway to channel water from Wudil River to Gaya.
He urged residents to take advantage of the new Polytechnic established in the town, stressing that education remains critical to developing future generations. The governor thanked the Emirate for its unwavering support for the administration’s development initiatives.
In his remarks, Emir Abdulkadir expressed appreciation to the state government, stating that the governor’s projects are visible across all four Emirates.
He said nearly 80 per cent of Governor Yusuf’s campaign promises had already been fulfilled and commended the road development and the siting of a second Polytechnic in the Emirate.
Members of the governor’s entourage included the Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo; Commissioners; Special Advisers; Local Government Chairmen; and party supporters.
Meanwhile, Governor Yusuf also commissioned the newly completed Gaya Town Hall, describing it as a major step toward addressing the shortage of modern meeting spaces in the community.
In a related development, he inspected the ongoing construction of the Women Reformatory Institute in Gaya, expressing satisfaction with the progress of work.
