The Jigawa State Governor, Malam Umar Namadi, said his administration will create more avenues for teachers’ competitions in all senior secondary schools in the state with a view to improving learning and teaching quality across the state’s education sector.
Namadi stated this to teachers of all science and technical schools at the ceremony of the Best Teachers Award organised by the Science and Technical Education Board, which was held at Sir Ahmadu Bello Hall in Dutse, the Jigawa State capital.
He assured that he would try his best and do as much as he can to improve the teaching and learning quality through training and retraining of teachers in the state.
Also speaking at the ceremony, the Executive Secretary of the Jigawa State Science and Technical Education Board (STEB), Alhaji Abbas Jafar Bada Kaya, said the event was the first of its kind in the history of STEB. He explained that it was dedicated to celebrating teachers who have distinguished themselves through selfless and tireless service.
“My readers would like to know who these teachers are. These teachers are the most important figures in the learning process whose role goes beyond imparting knowledge to guiding and mentoring learners towards success in life. They are the teachers who make a significant difference in the classroom and greatly contribute to achieving the desired result,” he said.
Bada Kaya also added that STEB has launched massive construction projects and procurement of all necessary and important school infrastructures that were not previously available in the science schools.
He noted that, more importantly, the introduction of quality service and efficiency in administrative channels has also been improved.
Explaining further, he said the motive behind the introduction of the annual Best Teacher Award competition is to encourage and motivate teachers to work harder.
“This process will serve as a framework for both rewarding excellence and also addressing poor performance among teachers to make them more serious about their duties,” he added.
