In a strategic move to address manpower shortages in the healthcare sector, the Yobe State Government has approved the immediate employment of 416 newly trained nurses and midwives.
Governor Mai Mala Buni announced the decision during the graduation ceremony of the Shehu Sule College of Nursing Sciences in Damaturu, where he was represented by the Deputy Governor, Hon. Idi Barde Gubana.
The recruitment, aimed at closing persistent staffing gaps, includes, 196 Basic Nurses and Midwives, 158 Community Nurses, and 62 Higher National Diploma (HND) holders.
Governor Buni noted that these professionals will be deployed to facilities across the state to strengthen primary and secondary healthcare, particularly in underserved regions.
He emphasized that sustained investment in training institutions is now translating into tangible workforce growth, noting that over 3,500 health workers have been employed during his administration.
The Provost of the college, Hajiya Hadiza Sabo, reported that the institution has produced 1,485 graduates between 2019 and 2026, all of whom have secured automatic employment.
She highlighted that this "training-to-employment" policy has not only boosted interest in nursing education but has also been instrumental in retaining skilled medical personnel within Yobe State.
