Gov. Aliyu’s performance stems from experience, not coincidence – Shagari

Former Sokoto State Deputy Governor and Chairman, National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Alhaji Mukhtar Shagari, has attributed Gov. Ahmed Aliyu’s impressive performance to his experience and leadership qualities, rather than coincidence.

Shagari, a former Minister of Water Resources, spoke on Wednesday at the foundation-laying ceremony for the 7.5km Dange–Wababe–Fajaldu road in Dange/Shuni Local Government Area.

According to him, many people are surprised by the governor’s achievements, but he always expected Aliyu to excel because of his academic background and years of public service.

“I am not among those wondering why Gov. Aliyu is exceeding expectations, because I know who he is and what he is capable of,” Shagari said.

He noted that Aliyu holds a Higher National Diploma in Management and Business Administration, a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, a Master’s degree in Management and Business Administration, and a PhD.

Shagari also traced the governor’s civil service career, saying he rose from a cashier in local government to Director of Finance, and later served as a commissioner for eight years, where he distinguished himself through exemplary service.

He further described Aliyu as a product of sound mentorship under Sen. Aliyu Wamakko, whom he described as one of Nigeria’s finest public servants.

The former deputy governor commended the quality of the State’s Executive Council, describing its members as responsible, experienced professionals, scholars, and academics “who are making significant contributions to Sokoto’s development.”

He thanked Wamakko for assembling a team capable of supporting the governor to advance the state.

Shagari expressed appreciation to Gov. Aliyu for the honour of laying the project’s foundation stone, and reaffirmed his commitment to the success of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Sokoto.

He urged the benefiting communities to cooperate with contractors to ensure timely completion of the road.

Also speaking, Gov. Ahmed Aliyu said the road was one of the several infrastructure projects being executed by his administration in partnership with the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP).

He said the N5.6 billion, 7.5km road was designed to improve access to markets, healthcare facilities, schools, and transportation for several communities.

The governor expressed confidence that the project would improve residents’ livelihoods, especially farmers, by easing the movement of agricultural produce to markets.

“This project is an investment in the future of our state and the next generation. It will continue to enhance the economic well-being of our people,” Aliyu said.

He directed the contractors to deliver the project on schedule and to the highest standards of quality and professionalism.

Aliyu reiterated his administration’s commitment to providing durable and quality infrastructure across the state.

He also appreciated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his commitment to national development, and expressed confidence that Sokoto residents would give overwhelming support to the president and the APC in the 2027 general elections.
