Gov Aiyedatiwa flags off 32-unit housing project for cabinet in Akure

Governor Dr Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa has inaugurated the construction of 32 four-bedroom terraced residential units for members of the State Executive Council, describing the scheme as a landmark step towards reshaping Akure into a modern, world-class capital city.
At the groundbreaking ceremony held on Thursday at the Government House Grounds, Alagbaka, the governor explained that the development forms part of a wider urban renewal drive around the Alagbaka axis.
He drew attention to ongoing works on Ijoka Road and the Irese Flyover, along with other infrastructure projects planned for the state capital.
“This project is significant as it provides modern terraced buildings with amenities that ensure the safety and comfort of our cabinet members. Each unit is well-planned, combining efficiency of space with the security of a gated environment,” Aiyedatiwa said.
The estate comprises 28 terraced homes grouped in five clusters, alongside four exclusive stand-alone houses. A gatehouse and a dedicated maintenance utility block will also be included.
According to the governor, the initiative reflects his administration’s developmental blueprint, OUR EASE, and demonstrates his commitment to improving the welfare of those entrusted with running state affairs.
“We are addressing the long-standing challenge of inadequate government quarters for top state officials. Only a few cabinet members had previously enjoyed accommodation within secured government housing facilities,” he noted.
Aiyedatiwa added that similar housing projects would soon be extended to members of the legislature and judiciary, while an affordable housing programme for civil servants across Ondo State is also in the pipeline.
Commissioner for Infrastructure, Lands and Housing, Engr Abiola Olawoye, described the project as a tangible expression of the governor’s determination to bridge Ondo State’s infrastructure gap. He appealed to the contractor to deliver the estate on schedule.
Chief Technical Officer of Cosgrove Investment Ltd., Engr Baba Kalli, gave assurances that the company would execute the project to the highest standards, underscoring its alignment with innovation and good governance.
In a goodwill message, Hon Biola Oladapo, Chairman of the House of Assembly Committee on Lands and Housing, said the estate would stand as a legacy project, promoting unity, productivity, and the welfare of cabinet members.
The Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi, also commended the governor and encouraged him to maintain momentum in the capital’s development.
The event drew top government officials, including Deputy Governor Dr Olayide Adelami, Speaker of the House Rt Hon Olamide Oladiji, Secretary to the State Government Dr Taiwo Fasoranti, Chief of Staff Prince Segun Omojuwa, Head of Service Mr Bayo Philip, members of the State Executive Council, lawmakers, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and other dignitaries.
