Gombe Govt donates N6m to Armed forces Emblem Appeal Fund

The Gombe State Government, on Thursday, donated N5 million to the 2020/21 Armed Forces Emblem Appeal Fund, Newsmen reports.

Gov. Inuwa Yahaya, who announced the donation at the launch of the emblem at Government House, Gombe, also made a personal donation of N1 million to the fund with a  pledge to continue to support the families of fallen heroes.

Newsmen recalled that the Armed Forces Remembrance Day is celebrated on Jan. 15 annually, to honour officers and soldiers, who paid the supreme price in the service of the nation.

The governor said his administration would partner with the Legion in efforts to rid the state of crime, and commended the Armed forces for defending the country’s territorial integrity.

Earlier, WO David Kadiri, the Chairman, Gombe state chapter of the Legion, said the funds realised would be used to support the families of ex-servicemen.

Kadiri appealed to the governor to give their children scholarships, and allocate land for the building of the Legion’s permanent office in the state.

Mr David Batari, the state Commissioner for Internal Security and Ethical Orientation, commended the military for their efforts at ensuring the unity of the country.
