Customs: New Comptroller resumes at Ogun 1 Area Command

A new Area Comptroller of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ogun 1 Area Command, has resumed at the command headquarters in Idiroko, Ogun.

The outgoing Area Comptroller, Muhammed Shuaibu, presented the new comptroller, Mr Charles Orbih, during the handing-over ceremony on Thursday.

Shuaibu expressed deep gratitude as he described the leadership of the area command as an incredible journey, marked by challenges, triumphs, and invaluable lessons.

“Under my leadership, the command not only enforced our mandates of revenue generation, border security, and trade facilitation, but it also made strides in building stronger collaboration with sister agencies, stakeholders, and our Benin Republic counterpart,” he said.

Shuaibu said the command generated N43,412,794.00 between January and April, seizing 161 prohibited items.

According to him, the items include 3,699 Cannabis sativa of different sizes,150 sacks of India hemp, three single-barrel long guns, four packets of 25 cartridges and 7,000,000,000 CFA.

He commended the Comptroller-General of NCS, Bashir Adeniyi, and his management team for the opportunity granted him to serve in the position and for the encouragement and confidence reposed in him.

He urged the personnel to pass on their support, cooperation and dedication to the new area comptroller for greater success.

“I have run with perseverance and have finished the race,” he said.

In his welcome address, the new Area Comptroller expressed his sincere appreciation to the Comptroller-General of NCS for trusting him enough to take up the crucial assignment.

“I do not take this trust for granted and I will give it my best, guided by the values of professionalism, integrity and national service,” Orbih said.

He applauded his predecessor, Shuaibu, for his sterling leadership style, which, he said, enabled the command to record significant operational breakthroughs.

He mentioned increased revenue collection, enhanced anti-smuggling operations and improved community engagement as some of the achievements of Shuaibu.

He reiterated the command’s commitment to actualising the core mandates of NCS, which include revenue generation, suppression of smuggling, facilitation of legitimate trade, and protection of national security.

Orbih assured the traditional rulers, community leaders, host communities, and all relevant stakeholders that he would sustain the robust partnership established by his predecessor.
