Gardener in court for allegedly stealing employer’s property

The police have arraigned a gardener, Yakubu Abdullahi in a Life Camp Chief Magistrates’ Court  Abuja for allegedly stealing  his employer’s property.

The police charged Abdullahi, 19,  of Rugo Fulani Dakibiu  Abuja, with criminal trespass and theft, to which he pleaded not guilty.

The Prosecuting Counsel, Mrs Charity Nwachukwu, told the court that the complainant, Mr Oyejide Akinboro of Citec Estate Abuja, reported the matter at the Life Camp Police Station on June 5.

Nwachukwu said that the defendant being the Estate gardener dishonestly went to the complainant’s elder brother’s house without the consent of anyone.

She said that the defendant criminally made away with the complainant’s elder brother’s generator, his Toyota car key, eight standing fan, batteries and a wall clock value yet unknown.

The prosecuting counsel told the court that in the process of escaping the estate, security guards caught the defendant  with the said property.

Nwachukwu said that during police investigation and interrogation, the defendant made a confessional statement.

The offences, according to her, contravened the provisions of sections 348 and 288 of the penal Code.

The Chief Magistrate, Musa Jobbo admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500,000, with two sureties in like sum.

Jobbo said that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

He adjourned the matter till July 31 for hearing.
