Former Kwara Speaker blames federal lapses for Kwara killings

By Muyideen Aliyu, Ilorin

A former Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Ali Ahmad, has leveled a blistering critique against the Federal Government’s security strategy following a devastating terrorist attack in the Woro Emirate.

Speaking in Ilorin after a fact-finding visit to the community, Ahmad accused security agencies of sleeping on duty, alleging that multiple warnings were ignored before the massacre that claimed several lives.

Ahmad revealed that the path for the terrorists was cleared after three military and security outposts in the axis were previously overrun without adequate reinforcement.

He described the scenes in Woro as grossly underreported, detailing mutilated bodies and a community left entirely defenseless.

He also criticized Vice President Kashim Shettima’s recent visit to the state, arguing that the VP should have visited Ground Zero in Kaiama rather than merely offering condolences in the state capital to amplify national awareness.

On the political front, Ahmad, a governorship aspirant, insisted that the current insecurity highlights the need for more urgent federal leadership.

He also dismissed rumors of a terminal crisis within the Kwara PDP, maintaining that the party remains a united alternative for the 2027 elections.

He called for a thorough investigation and prosecution of any security officials found culpable in the breakdown of intelligence that led to the Woro tragedy.
