Food vendor docked for allegedly stealing customer’s phone

An area Court in a Kari Grade 1 in Abuja yesterday docked a food vendor identified to be Anna Daniel, aged 33 years old for allegedly stealing her customer’s smart phone worth N94,000.

The police charged the defendant with criminal trespass and theft.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Prosecution Counsel, Mr Olanrewaju Osho, told the court that the defendant went into the complainant’s shop situated in Kurudu, Abuja, to plait her hair and she stole the phone.

Osho said that the defendant also stole two other cell phones belonging to another customer.

He said during the police investigation, the defendant confessed to the crime.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 348 and 288 of the Penal Code.

The Judge, Malam Umar Mayana, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100,000 each with two sureties each in like sum.

He said that the sureties must live within the court’s jurisdiction, and their addresses verified by a court officer and police officer from emanating division.

The judge adjourned the case until May 16 for further hearing.
