A violent confrontation at Soka Junction in Ibadan has left five officials of the Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA) injured and four operational vehicles severely damaged.

The clash erupted during an enforcement exercise targeting the state’s QR-coded jacket policy for commercial motorcyclists.

The operation, led by OYRTMA Chairman Adesagba Adekoya, began peacefully in the Olodo and Olomi axes but turned volatile at Soka Junction.

Reports indicate that a group of okada riders, allegedly incited by a local park unit chairman, resisted the enforcement team.

The situation escalated into a physical attack involving stones and wooden objects.

During the chaos, security operatives from the Amotekun Corps were also targeted, with some briefly disarmed before the team was forced to retreat.

Three of the injured officers remain hospitalized following the attack.

Adekoya condemned the incident as barbaric, asserting that the QR-coded jacket initiative is a vital security measure designed to identify riders and curb criminal activities.

While investigations are ongoing to identify and prosecute the attackers, the OYRTMA Chairman vowed that enforcement of the policy would continue across the state to ensure public safety and accountability.
