FIRS certifies eTranzact as key partner in nationwide e-invoicing rollout

The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has officially approved eTranzact International Plc as a certified provider for its nationwide e-invoicing initiative, further extending a partnership that began with VAT automation under the Tax Administration 2.0 programme.

Adeyemi Opene, Head of Corporate Communications at FIRS, announced the development on Thursday, noting that the endorsement consolidates eTranzact’s reputation as a reliable ally in the government’s digital transformation of tax and business processes.

Opene explained, “The FIRS e-invoicing platform, known as the Merchant Buyer Solution (MBS), introduces structured digital invoices across business-to-business, business-to-consumer, and business-to-government transactions. By design, it streamlines tax procedures, boosts compliance, and enhances transparency within Africa’s largest economy.”

Mike Adoga, Acting Director of Tax Automation at FIRS, outlined that certified providers were subject to stringent criteria, including the capacity to operate nationwide, demonstrable security standards, impartiality, and scalability. He further acknowledged the technical contributions of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA).

Tayo Koleoso, Chief of Staff to the Executive Chairman of FIRS, added that the selection process prioritised providers capable of delivering at scale. He emphasised NITDA’s essential role in reinforcing data protection and cybersecurity measures on the platform, which assures taxpayers that their information remains secure and the entire process transparent.

Niyi Toluwalope, Managing Director and CEO of eTranzact International Plc, described e-invoicing as a catalyst for innovation in business-government engagement. “This recognition by FIRS affirms our ambition to be the preferred integrated financial technology platform for merchants and consumers. For us, e-invoicing transcends mere compliance; it represents a chance to transform interactions between businesses and government, fostering transparency, efficiency, and value for all stakeholders,” he said.

Toluwalope further noted that the certification builds on eTranzact’s established history in supporting national tax automation. Since 2017, under Tax Administration 2.0, eTranzact partnered with FIRS and key banks to implement an API system enabling secure VAT and withholding tax reporting through TaxPro Max. This infrastructure set a new benchmark for digital transparency in tax reporting and laid the groundwork for Tax Administration 3.0.

Beyond tax solutions, eTranzact has delivered technology addressing other government and institutional requirements. In 2024, the company introduced a verification system for the Military Pensions Board, facilitating seamless identity authentication for pensioners both within Nigeria and overseas.

Operating since 2003, eTranzact has provided secure and scalable payment infrastructure across multiple sectors. It holds licenses from the Central Bank of Nigeria for Switching and Processing as well as Mobile Money Operations.

Through the ongoing e-invoicing rollout, eTranzact continues to support FIRS in achieving its mandate to digitise invoicing nationwide, ensuring compliance with international standards while maintaining relevance to local needs.
