FCC moves to clear employment delays in 12 federal hospitals after NARD pressure

The leadership of the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) says progress has been made in the long-delayed employment process in 12 Federal Tertiary Health Institutions across the country.
The statement was signed on Wednesday by Dr. Abdulmajid Yahya Ibrahim, the NARD Publicity Secretary.
In the statement, NARD said it has received confirmation that Hon. Motunrayo Hulayat Omidiran, the Chairperson of the Federal Character Commission (FCC), has directed the Chief Medical Directors (CMDs) of the affected hospitals to report to the commission to collect their Letters of Compliance.
The commission also instructed the CMDs to immediately complete all outstanding requirements needed for the issuance of appointment letters to healthcare workers in their institutions.
This development comes after NARD, during its recent Ordinary General Meeting, issued a 21-day ultimatum to the Federal Government, demanding urgent action on the delayed employment process through the FCC.
NARD urged the leadership of the affected hospitals to ensure close follow-up with their CMDs so the compliance letters can be collected quickly and recruitment processes completed without further delay.
The association also praised Prof. Afekhide Ernest Omoti, the President of the Nigerian Medical Association, for what it described as timely intervention and engagement with the FCC leadership, which helped push the process forward.
NARD said the development shows that dialogue, unity, and consistent advocacy remain key tools for improving the welfare of doctors and strengthening Nigeria’s health system.
