Expert urges graduating students to embrace innovation, problem-solving

A telecommunications expert, Mr Wole Abu, has urged graduating students of Whitesands School, Lekki, to become innovators and problem-solvers as they prepare for the next phase of life.
Abu, the Managing Director of Equinix West Africa, gave the advice at the school’s graduation ceremony held on Saturday at its multipurpose hall in Lagos.
Speaking on the evolution of innovation, he encouraged the students to develop the skills needed to lead the next generation of innovators.
“The tools keep changing, but the individual remains. Problem-solvers will never go out of relevance.
“Do not fear the tools; master them. Do not avoid problems; solve them. Do not fear the future; it is already calling you by name.
“Stay focused. Africa is rising, and you will rise with it,” he said.
The newsmen report that 64 students graduated from the school at the ceremony, which attracted parents, teachers, students and other well-wishers.
The Principal, Dr Emeka Enemuoh, described the Class of 2026 as exceptional and exemplary, commending the students for their leadership and contributions to the school.
“You pioneered student lecture talks during school assemblies, setting a standard for those who will come after you.
“You also demonstrated exemplary leadership under the Senior Prefect, Chukwuebuka Udenze, and his deputy, Sumitire Comla.
“In addition to your previous class projects, you undertook a legacy project by raising funds for the T-shirts worn by staff and students during our anniversary House Athletics Competition.
“These acts of initiative, generosity and leadership reflect the values that Whitesands School upholds, and we are immensely proud of every one of you,” he said.
Enemuoh urged the graduands to remain committed to serving their communities by identifying societal needs and working towards solving them.
He also encouraged them to be peacemakers, uphold the truth and stand up for the vulnerable.
The outgoing Senior Prefect, Udenze, expressed appreciation to the principal, teachers, advisers, parents and support staff for their commitment to students’ development.
Udenze congratulated the newly elected prefects and urged them to build on the legacy of the graduating class.
“I trust in your abilities to bring about even more positive change in the school and continue the legacy we have started,” he said.
Newsmen report that the event featured the presentation of prizes to graduands and other outstanding students for excellence in academics, good conduct, service, leadership and sportsmanship.
