EPL: Evra defends Onana over his error in Man Utd’s latest win

Former Manchester United defender, Patrice Evra has defended goalkeeper Andre Onana over his error against Aston Villa on Christmas Boxing Day.

Onana has made a series of mistakes for Man United this season.

The Cameroonian international was arguably again at fault for Aston Villa’s first goal against the Red Devils at Old Trafford.

Onana, who replaced David de Gea as Man United’s No.1 goalkeeper last summer, rooted to his line when he should’ve been coming to collect a ball that bounced about two yards out.

However, Evra defended Onana in his analysis as he told Amazon Prime: “It depends on the style of the goalkeeper. If you had Thibaut Courtois, he would have come to that ball [to stop Aston Villa’s first goal].

“I played with Edwin van der Sar, I played with David de Gea. They never would have come out like that.

“People can point and say it is a goalkeeper error. But I think it is just the type of goalkeeper.”
