Emmanuel Edoka escapes Boko Haram captivity

Emmanuel Ajirioghene Edoka, a serving officer in one of Nigeria’s paramilitary forces with the rank of inspector, has gone missing while on duty. In addition to his rank, Edoka also served as an instructor on special assignments. Since early February 2024, he has not been seen signing in for his official duties.

Reports indicate that Edoka joined the paramilitary in 2004, working his way up to the rank of inspector. He was recently deployed on a special mission in northern Nigeria, leading a squad of special forces tasked with countering Boko Haram insurgents. However, it was later revealed that one of Edoka’s superiors, whose identity is being withheld, may have had ties to the terrorist group. Unknown to Emmanuel Edoka, his superior — name withheld — was a secret agent of the terrorists (Boko Haram).  In the line of duty, there was a gun fight between the terrorists and the squad led by Emmanuel Edoka. The terrorists were rounded up and captured at their hideouts.

According to an insider who pleaded anonymity, orders were then given by Edoka’s superior to release the captured terrorists. Edoka refused to comply with the directive, opposing what he viewed as an improper order.

Soon after, Edoka and three of his subordinates were disarmed and taken captive by Boko Haram. The terrorists demanded that Edoka join their group, threatening to kill him and his family if he refused. After spending several days in captivity, Edoka managed to escape.

Efforts to reach Edoka’s family have uncovered distressing news. His wife and children have been displaced, with reports stating that his eldest child was tragically killed during an attack by unknown assailants. At the time of filing this report, the whereabouts of his wife and remaining children are unknown.
