Ember months: FRSC intensifies community sensitisation in Bauchi

Corp Commander Yusuf Abdullahi, the Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Bauchi State, says that the commission had intensified measures to curb road traffic crashes in the state.

The Sector Commander disclosed this in an interview with newsmen in Bauchi on Friday.

Abdullahi, who said that the move was part of the command’s programmes for the ‘Ember months’, revealed that all the village heads of Road Traffic Crashes (RTC) prone areas had been sensitised and engaged to guard the ‘red flags’ used to alert road users about the dangerous spots.

He said the village heads were told that the safety of lives and properties on Nigeria roads was everybody’s responsibility and they all pledged their support in ensuring the protection of the red flags.

“This is to ensure hitch-free festivities as Christmas and New Year celebrations are near,” he said.

The Sector Commander further explained that when the red flags were properly monitored and sustained were they are mounted, they would serve the purpose of cautioning and alerting road users about the danger spots in the areas.

He said that the commission frequently visits the communities to sensitise the people not to ply the roads without obeying road traffic regulations.

Abdullahi, who observed that this is the time for harvest of farm produce, said the command had also advised the people in the accident prone areas that the produce should not be littered on the roads in the process of conveying them from the farms to their homes.

“They village heads equally play a role of feedback mechanism. They serve as sources to give us information on the conduct of road users and general motorists along their axis.

“We have given them phone numbers to call and they update us on the conduct of road users in their areas almost on a daily basis,” the commander said.

The Sector Commander also cautioned all motorists to always be conscious of road traffic rules and regulations as well as the weather at all times.
