
Ekiti: Police arrest man for brutal wife-beating after video goes viral
The Ekiti State Police have arrested Jimoh Abdulrahman, who stands accused of brutally assaulting his wife, Mrs. Akintunde Bidemi Taiwo, a nursing mother, in a shocking incident that has sparked outrage online.
The assault came to light after a viral video surfaced, showing the horrific attack on February 15, 2025.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Sunday Abutu, the arrest was made swiftly on the evening of February 15, 2025, following an order from the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Joseph Eribo.
The police action came after widespread condemnation of the disturbing video that circulated on social media platforms.
SP Abutu revealed that the arrest occurred at approximately 7:00 p.m. after operatives from the Oke-Ila Division responded to a tip-off regarding the assault, which had occurred at the suspect’s residence in Nova Area, Ado Ekiti.
The statement also detailed how the case was promptly transferred to the Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further investigation and subsequent legal action.
“On February 15, 2025, at approximately 7:00 p.m., the Ekiti State Police Command arrested Jimoh Abdulrahman for severely assaulting his wife, Mrs. Akintunde Bidemi Taiwo, a nursing mother,” said Abutu in the official release.
Following the viral video’s circulation, public outrage grew, with many calling for immediate action.
Police Commissioner Mr. Joseph Eribo further emphasized that the Ekiti State Police Command will not tolerate any form of gender-based violence, pledging to ensure that justice is served in this case.
The Ekiti State Government has also condemned the assault, urging citizens to report all forms of domestic abuse to the relevant authorities, stressing that such actions will not be tolerated in the state.
