Ekiti Gov’t approves new Surveyor-General office, N6.29bn road rehabilitation

The Ekiti State Government has approved several policy initiatives and strategic projects aimed at strengthening governance, boosting infrastructure development and promoting sustainable socio-economic growth in the state.
The approvals were made during the state executive council second meeting of 2026 held on Wednesday, the Commissioner for Information, Hon. Taiwo Olatunbosun, said the decisions were part of the administration efforts to enhance service delivery and accelerate development across the state.
Olatunbosun said the council approved the drafting and transmission of a bill to the Ekiti State House of Assembly to provide legal backing for the establishment of the office which will regulate and coordinate land surveying activities in the state.
According to the government, Council approved the enactment of a Law to provide for the establishment of the Office of the Surveyor-General of Ekiti State, the appointment of the Surveyor-General, the regulation and coordination of land surveying activities within the State, as well as other matters connected therewith. Council also approved that the proposed Bill be transmitted to the Ekiti State House of Assembly for legislative consideration and passage into Law.
“The decision is intended to strengthen land administration in the State and ensure effective coordination, supervision, and regulation of surveying activities in line with professional and statutory standards.
“The Council also approved the implementation of the Ekiti State Statistical Master Plan (2025–2029), a five-year strategic framework aimed at strengthening evidence-based planning and policy formulation.
“The plan aligns with the Ekiti State Development Plan, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the administration’s Six-Pillar Agenda, and the National Strategy for the Development of Statistics (NSDS III).
“Government said the initiative would improve the quality, reliability, and availability of official statistics, strengthen collaboration and data sharing among Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), and support effective governance and development planning.
“The plan will also provide strategies for recruiting and retaining skilled statistical personnel, improving working conditions, and enhancing funding for statistical activities in the state.
“The document builds on earlier editions of the State Statistical Master Plan and follows extensive consultations with stakeholders including government agencies, members of the State House of Assembly, civil society groups, and the organised private sector.
However, the Executive council also approved N6.29 billion for the rehabilitation of key township roads in Ado-Ekiti.
The roads approved for rehabilitation include the New Iyin–NTA Road, Onigari–Spotless Hotel–Egbewa Road, Ijigbo–Baptist High School Road, Okesa–Oke Ori Omi–Irona Road, Oke Iyinmi–Fajuyi–Police Headquarters Road, Ecobank–Mobil Filling Station Ajilosun Road, and Ile Abiye–Bisi Egbeyemi Crescent Government House Gate Road.
The government said the rehabilitation programme is part of its broader effort to improve urban mobility, enhance traffic flow, and boost socio-economic activities within the state capital.
The government reiterated its commitment to providing quality infrastructure that will enhance mobility, support economic growth, and improve the living standards of the people of Ekiti State.
He said, “The Ekiti State Executive Council approved the sum of #6,290,549,973.44 (Six Billion, Two Hundred and Ninety Million, Five Hundred and Forty-Nine Thousand, Nine Hundred and Seventy-Three Naira, Forty-Four Kobo) for the rehabilitation of major township roads in Ado-Ekiti.
“New lyin – NTA Road (2.8 km dualized road), Onigari – Spotless Hotel – Egbewa Road (1.6 km), Ijigbo – Baptist High School Road (3.5 km dualized road), Okesa – Oke Ori Omi – Irona Road (1.2 km), Oke lyinmi – Fajuyi – Police Headquarters Road (5.4 km), Ecobank – Mobil Filling Station, Ajilosun Road (1.6 km dualized road), Ile Abiye – Bisi Egbeyemi Crescent Government House Gate Road (345 metres).
“The initiative forms part of the present Administration’s sustained commitment to infrastructural development across the State, particularly within the State capital. The rehabilitation of these roads is expected to improve traffic flow, ease the movement of people, goods and services, and significantly enhance socio-economic activities within Ado-Ekiti and its environs.
“Please note that the road rehabilitation programme is being implemented in phases, with the current approval representing a new phase of the initiative. Additional phases are expected to commence in due course as part of the Government’s broader and sustained effort to upgrade critical road infrastructure across Ado-Ekiti and improve urban mobility within the city.
