The Ekiti State Government Executive Council has approved over N16.75 billion for major road reconstructions, agricultural road upgrades, and solar-powered streetlight projects across the state.
This was made known by the Ekiti State Government on Tuesday after the fifth executive meeting, which was held at the Governor’s Office in Ado-Ekiti.
The State Commissioner for Information, Rt. Hon. Taiwo Olatunbosun, explained that the massive financial approvals are aimed at driving infrastructure development, improving public safety, and boosting the state’s economy.
“These approvals are designed to improve the quality of life of Ekiti people by expanding access to critical infrastructure, enhancing public safety, stimulating economic activities, promoting private sector investment and ensuring efficient public service delivery,” Olatunbosun said.
A major chunk of the approved funds, totaling N14.31 billion, has been earmarked for strategic road infrastructure.
This includes the reconstruction of the 18.83-kilometre Ilawe–Erijiyan–Ikogosi Road, which connects tourist hotspots like the Ikogosi Warm Springs Resort.
Additionally, the council approved N2.063 billion to upgrade four Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP) roads.
The funds will increase the asphalt thickness of these rural roads from 30mm to 40mm to accommodate higher vehicular volumes than initially projected during construction.
The council also approved N381.65 million for solar-powered streetlights across three major locations in Ado-Ekiti to improve nighttime security and boost local business.
Another N337.66 million was approved for electrical infrastructure, including transformer upgrades and extending electricity to the Command Academy in Ikogosi-Ekiti.
“The State Government will continue to uphold the highest standards of transparency, accountability and due process in the implementation of all approved projects, while maintaining prudent management of public resources to guarantee value for money,” Olatunbosun stated.
Beyond infrastructure, the Executive Council approved the official appointment of Prince Fagbayi Feyisayo Ige as the new Olumojo of Imojo-Ekiti. This traditional appointment followed due process and unanimous selection by local kingmakers.
On the administrative front, N74.96 million was approved to develop the Ekiti State Water and Sanitation Regulatory Data Management System (EK-WASREDAMS) under a World Bank-supported program.
The council also adopted the 2025 Business Enabling Reform Action Plan (BERAP) to attract more commercial investments and boost private sector growth in the state.
The cabinet meeting closed with members of the council extending warm congratulations to Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji on his recent re-election victory at the polls.
The cabinet noted that Oyebanji has made political history as the first sitting governor in Ekiti State’s history to successfully secure a second consecutive term in office.
