Ekiti CP pledges decisive action against crime

The newly deployed Commissioner of Police for Ekiti State, CP Michael Falade, has pledged to launch a firm crackdown on criminal activities while institutionalizing a citizen-friendly approach to policing across the state.
Speaking to journalists upon his official resumption on Monday, the police chief described his appointment as a significant career milestone and expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to serve the people of Ekiti.
Falade assured residents that the protection of lives and property remains his absolute priority, emphasizing that his leadership will be anchored on professionalism, integrity, and strict adherence to human rights.
He also paid tribute to his predecessor, AIG Joseph Eribo, commending his contributions to the state's security architecture and pledging to build upon the established structures.
Delivering a clear mandate to the public, the Commissioner stated that law-abiding citizens have nothing to fear under his watch, while criminal elements will be dealt with decisively.
“My approach will be friendly to law-abiding citizens but very tough on crime and criminal elements,” he declared.
Falade emphasized that effective policing requires robust collaboration between the force and the public.
He urged residents to support security efforts by providing timely and credible information to law enforcement authorities.
According to him, intelligence gathering remains a critical tool in crime prevention, and he encouraged citizens to embrace the principle of see something, say something as a fundamental civic duty.
He noted that criminals represent only a small fraction of the population and expressed confidence that, through collective cooperation, they can be effectively rooted out.
To achieve this, he noted that strengthening partnerships with local communities, traditional security outfits, and sister agencies would be central to maintaining peace.
The Commissioner also took a firm stance against police misconduct, warning that human rights violations and brutality will not be tolerated.
He reminded officers that citizens are key stakeholders in the security architecture and must be treated with dignity.
The new CP also pledged to enhance response mechanisms for public complaints and called on the media to play a responsible role in disseminating accurate information, particularly in an era of rapid misinformation.
Reaffirming his commitment to intelligence-driven strategies, Falade concluded by urging families and community leaders to discourage criminal behavior among the youth, warning that anyone choosing a life of crime would face the full weight of the law.
