EFCC, INEC pledge collaboration to ensure credible 2027 elections

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) have agreed to deepen collaboration aimed at ensuring credible and transparent elections in the 2027 general elections.
The EFCC, in a statement posted on its official X handle on Wednesday, said both agencies had agreed to work together towards strengthening the electoral process.
“The EFCC and INEC have agreed to partner together towards ensuring credible and transparent election in the 2027 general election,” the Commission said.
The agreement was reached on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, when Obo Etfanga, the Edo State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), paid a courtesy visit to the Benin Zonal Directorate of the EFCC.
During the visit, Etfanga said the engagement was part of consultations with key stakeholders, including law enforcement agencies, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He noted that the collaboration would help strengthen the electoral process and address vote buying, which has remained a recurring concern in previous elections.
“The visit was to explore areas of further collaboration while noting that the EFCC has always played significant role in seeking to curtail vote buying during elections,” Etfanga said.
Responding, Sa’ad Hanafi Sa’ad, the Acting Zonal Director and Deputy Commander of the EFCC, said the Commission would continue to work with INEC in curbing vote buying before and during elections.
