Ecobank, ROGEAP to train SMEs in renewable
Ecobank Nigeria, in collaboration with the Regional Off-Grid Electricity Access Project (ROGEAP), has unveiled a three-day Entrepreneurship Business Training Workshop for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the solar energy sector. The training will take place in Abuja from 10th to 12th March, equipping 50 SMEs with essential technical, financial, and business management expertise to thrive in the expanding renewable energy industry.
In a joint statement, the organisers stated that the initiative aims to enhance the capabilities of SMEs operating in the off-grid solar energy space. Participants will receive comprehensive training in areas such as the solar energy value chain, quality assurance, environmental and social risk management, business model development, and access to financial support, including ROGEAP grants and credit lines.
ROGEAP is supported by the World Bank, the Clean Technology Fund, and the Directorate General for International Cooperation of the Netherlands. The ECOWAS body oversees its implementation through a dedicated project fund manager, ensuring that the programme fosters a regional market for off-grid solar products while supporting key industry players.
Speaking on the significance of the initiative, Salamatu Baba Tunzwang, ESF Team Lead at ROGEAP, stated:
“This workshop represents a major step towards increasing sustainable energy access and fostering business expansion in Nigeria. By equipping SMEs with vital tools and knowledge, we are empowering them to contribute to economic progress while advancing clean energy adoption.”
Expressing Ecobank’s enthusiasm for the collaboration, Tunde Dawodu, Divisional Head, FCT/North Ecobank Nigeria, remarked:
“At Ecobank, we are thrilled to partner in this initiative. The workshop aligns with our continued efforts to support SMEs in their growth journeys. This training will be of immense benefit to our SME customers engaged in solar energy installation and sales. It also complements our ELLEVATE Programme and Single Market Trade Hub, providing them with tailored financial solutions, digital tools, and strategic insights to expand into larger markets.”
ROGEAP’s broader goal is to improve sustainable energy access across 12 ECOWAS member states and seven additional African nations, fostering a more integrated and resilient off-grid solar market.
