DPR urges marketers to switch to remote monitoring

The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) in Adamawa has advised petroleum marketers to take advantage of the Downstream Remote Monitoring System (DRMS), otherwise known as e-station.

Mr Sadiq Ibraheem, Operations Controller, DPR Yola Field Office,  gave the advice at a stakeholders’ meeting on DRMS on Wednesday in Yola.

He said that the new system was an inventory and regulatory tool that tracked product level across retail outlets and depots.

According to him, the system also tracks the movement of product from the depot to the retail outlet.

“The e-station will also help the marketers to access the product easily on time and to avoid unnecessary delay where the truck driver will be waiting for two weeks at the depot.

“With the new system, you will know the quantity of product and sales of a particular day of your station wherever you are,” he explained.

In his presentation, Dauda Ali, Team Leader, Retail Outlet and Monitoring, said the new system would enable them to move from manual to electronic submission of their stocktaking and the daily metering of dispensing pump.

According to him, logging in to the e-station was simple and easy through the web portal and short code.

He said that these would solve a lot of difficulties faced by the marketers.

In his remarks, Dahiru Buba, Chairman, Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) commended the DPR for the new system and promised to pass on the message to all members.

He decried the way IPMAN members were being treated while seeking products, unlike the major marketers.

According to him, IPMAN members mostly get their products from private depots, instead of the NNPC.

Abdulmalik Bello, IPMAN member, expressed the need for the extension of the implementation of the new system to enable them to be ready for it.
