Diri Leads Anti-Drug Walk, Champions Youth Empowerment in Bayelsa

Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has urged youths in the state to avoid drug use and focus on developing skills, self-discipline, and confidence to lead successful lives.
Diri made the appeal during the Prosperity Walk held in Yenagoa on Thursday, commemorating the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. He highlighted the strong link between substance abuse and crime, encouraging young people to pursue constructive paths.
“Drugs and violence go hand in hand. We must choose a different path,” he said.
The governor celebrated Victory Godah, a young athlete discovered in Bayelsa who now studies at the University of Minnesota and recently donated sports gear to support local athletes.
Health Commissioner Prof. Seiyefa Brisibe advised participants on the benefits of walking for people over 40, while NDLEA State Commander Kanu Sunny praised Bayelsa’s efforts, reporting a 5% decline in drug abuse.
The state’s proactive steps, including school outreach and community engagement, were recognized as effective tools in the ongoing fight against drug-related issues.
