Diddy pleads to serve prison sentence at lower-security facility

Sean "Diddy" Combs, the 55-year-old hip-hop mogul recently sentenced to four years and two months in prison, is formally asking the court to let him serve his time at a less restrictive facility.

Diddy, who was sentenced last Friday after being found guilty on two counts of transportation for prostitution, reportedly broke down in tears as the verdict was read in the New York court.

He has been detained in the Special Housing Unit of the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) in Brooklyn, New York, since September.

Diddy's legal team is now seeking his transfer to FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey, a low-security federal prison known for having relatively relaxed conditions.

In a letter to Judge Arun Subramanian, defense attorney Teny Geragos respectfully requested that the court strongly recommend FCI Fort Dix to the Bureau of Prisons.

The request specifically cites Diddy's need to address drug abuse issues and to maximize family visitation and rehabilitative efforts.

The defense emphasized that placement at Fort Dix would facilitate his participation in the Residential Drug Abuse Treatment Program (RDAP), a voluntary federal prison program utilizing cognitive-behavioral therapy for inmates with substance abuse disorders. His legal team argues that this program is essential for his rehabilitation and would better support family visits during his incarceration.
