The APC governorship hopeful also enjoined the good people of Benue State and entire Nigerians both at home and in the diaspora to celebrate this year’s Democracy Day in Nigeria.

In a press statement signed by Isaac Uzaan Media Aide to the APC Governorship Standard Bearer, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia and made available to Nigerian NewsDirect, Fr. Alia said this year’s Democracy Day is coming on the heels of the Primary Elections in our country in which our great party, the APC set the trend of living out the true meaning of democracy in Benue State by allowing the masses to participate in the decision-making process to select leaders who will govern them in the next political dispensation.

He encouraged the people to “hold to the hope, the belief and the conviction that we shall overcome every obstacle, march to the polls, win the election and make the lives of the people and our state better.”

The Servant of God reiterated his determination to enthrone social democracy which recognises citizens’ rights, liberty, equality and fraternity as the principles of life in Benue State, emphasising his desire to give priority attention to the people and institutions that have deliberately been excluded and neglected.

He called on Benue people, particularly his supporters to always be civil in their approaches and avoid going dirty even in the face of provocation, adding that a healthy democracy requires a decent society, it requires that we are honourable, generous, tolerant and respectful.

The governorship candidate acknowledged the commitment and passion of the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Gen. Muhammad Buhari GCFR in protecting and preserving the ideals of democracy in our country.

Fr. Alia thanked the leader and State Working Committee of our great party, the APC for strengthening our democracy by embracing genuine and mass participation in decision making.

He explained that what Benue State needs now is a responsible and purposeful people oriented minds who will lead the people in truth, in fairness and in Justice, just as he assured them of his prerequisite and integrity to lead.
