Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has commissioned 12 four-bedroom terraced duplexes for Permanent Secretaries and presented 12 official vehicles to newly appointed permanent secretaries.

The move is part of efforts to improve the welfare and effectiveness of the state’s civil service, the government said.

Speaking at the commissioning, Governor Oborevwori said the investments were part of his administration’s commitment to putting the welfare of workers at the centre of governance.

According to him, the new housing facilities would provide “befitting accommodation” for Permanent Secretaries, while the completed internal roads and drainage systems within the quarters would help address flooding and erosion that had affected the area.

The governor also explained that the 12 official vehicles were provided to support the mobility of the newly appointed Permanent Secretaries and enable them to perform their responsibilities more effectively.

Oborevwori said his administration remained committed to ensuring that appointments into the civil service were based on merit, competence and experience.

He noted that 450 senior management staff had undergone training as part of efforts to strengthen the capacity of the state’s workforce.

The governor further highlighted the implementation of the national minimum wage and the planned introduction of a 13th-month salary as measures designed to improve workers’ welfare.

“These initiatives are aimed at strengthening the public service and ensuring that our workers are motivated to give their best,” the governor said.

He stressed that an efficient civil service remained essential to the successful implementation of government policies and programmes, adding that his administration would continue to invest in the people and institutions responsible for delivering services to residents.

The housing and vehicle projects are expected to provide the newly appointed Permanent Secretaries with improved working conditions as they take on their responsibilities in the state’s public administration.

The development also underscores the state government’s broader focus on combining infrastructure investment with staff welfare and capacity building to create a more effective and responsive civil service.
