Delta assembly strengthening frameworks to tackle insecurity — Speaker

The Speaker of the Delta House of Assembly, Dennis Guwor, says the legislature is strengthening  legal framework to tackle insecurity, kidnapping and other crimes.

Guwor spoke on  while newsmen  in Asaba as part of activities marking the third anniversary of the Eighth Assembly in the state.

He said the house has prioritised security-related legislation to support government efforts at protecting lives and property across the state.

According to him, the assembly recently passed a community security law aimed at strengthening grassroots security structures.

The speaker said the law would enhance coordination among communities, security agencies and other stakeholders in addressing security challenges.

He noted that the state legislature remained committed to providing legal backing for measures designed to curb criminal activities.

Guwor said security matters required careful handling, stressing that operational details cannot always be discussed publicly.

According to him, revealing security strategies could compromise efforts by security agencies and give criminals an advantage.

He commended security operatives for their sacrifices and commitment in the fight against kidnapping and other crimes.

The speaker, however, acknowledged that security challenges persisted in some parts of the state.

He urged residents to support security agencies with timely and credible information to improve crime prevention efforts.

Guwor maintained that community participation remained critical to achieving lasting peace and security.

He assured the people of Delta that the assembly would continue to review and enact laws to address emerging security threats.

Guwor also pledged continued legislative oversight to ensure effective implementation of security-related laws.

He reaffirmed the assembly’s commitment to promoting peace, safety and development across the state.
