Curfew in Jos-Bukuru metropolis still in force, movement begins 7:00 a.m – PLSG

The Plateau Government says that the curfew earlier imposed on Jos-Bukuru metropolis has not been relaxed.

The Director of Press and Public Affairs (DOPPA) to Gov. Caleb Mutfwang, Mr Gyang Bere, stated this in a statement on Wednesday in Jos.

Bere was reacting to a fake news making the rounds in social media that the curfew had been relaxed.

According to the fake news, the time for free movement had been reviewed to between 6:00a.m. and 10:00 p.m.

But the DOPPA maintained that free movement within the affected areas remain between 7:00 a.m and 7:00 p.m.

“Government wishes to clarify that there is no further relaxation of the curfew currently in force.

“Contrary to a false statement being circulated by certain individuals, the curfew remains as previously announced.

“Residents are hereby reminded that movement is permitted only between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., as directed by the governor.

“The public is advised to disregard any misleading information and to adhere strictly to the stipulated curfew hours,” he said.

Recall that the government on Sunday, Aug. 4, imposed a curfew following the looting of public and private assets by some hoodlums in Jos North Local Government Area (LGA), of the state.

The miscreants hijacked the nationwide #EndBadGovernance protest to perpetrate the criminal acts, hence the curfew was imposed to forestall further destruction of lives and property.

The 24-hour curfew was later reviewed based on improved security in the affected areas, reflecting the current timing for free movement.
