Court remands driver in prison after alleged traffic violation, confrontation with Lagos Taskforce

A mobile court in Oshodi has detained the driver involved in the viral video of an incident in the Ikorodu area.
According to the official report, the event began at approximately 6:30 am on Friday, March 13, 2026, when officers intercepted a driver for making an illegal turn.
Instead of complying, the motorist, identified as Lateef Adeyemo, allegedly reversed his vehicle into an oncoming commercial mini-bus, causing a collision that endangered nearby commuters and damaged the bus.
"The situation escalated when Taskforce officers attempted to take custody of the driver and his vehicle," the Lagos Police Command alleged.
The Command further narrated that the suspect resisted arrest and obstructed the highway, leading to a temporary gridlock that required personnel to use minimal force to clear the roadway.
During the encounter, the suspect is accused of instigating bystanders to pelt officers with stones. Police officials noted that the viral video was filmed by the suspect himself while his car was being towed, asserting that the footage was captured in a manner that omitted the initial traffic offense and the subsequent accident.
Following the incident, Lateef Adeyemo was charged before a mobile court in Oshodi on four counts, including driving in a prohibited direction, obstruction of public officers, conduct likely to cause a breach of peace, and malicious damage.
He has been remanded in prison custody after failing to fulfill his bail conditions.
The Command reminded the public that driving against traffic remains a grave offense under the Lagos State Road Traffic Law and Regulations 2018, carrying a penalty of one year in prison and forfeiture of the vehicle.
