Completion of Agge deep sea port remains a priority — Oyetola

Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Dr. Adegboyega Oyetola has declared that the completion of Agge deep sea port remains a priority.

The Minister gave this assurances on Wednesday in a statement by his media aide, Dr Bolaji Akinola.

According to the Minister the completion of the Agge Deep Sea Port in Bayelsa State will stimulate financial expansion, generate employment, and attract both domestic and international capital to the Niger Delta.

He further explained that the construction of this deep sea port remains a top federal priority as part of a broader initiative to capitalize on the vast resources within the nation’s marine sector.

According to the Minister, establishing the port is fully aligned with the overarching vision of President Bola Tinubu’s administration to rejuvenate the national economy through impactful projects that encourage international trade, industrial growth, and long-term development.

He further noted that the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy is actively collaborating with the Bayelsa State Government alongside other key partners to ensure the project moves forward swiftly.

“Once operational, the facility is expected to serve as a principal maritime gateway for the South-South region, which will help relieve pressure on existing national ports, streamline global trade logistics, and provide a strong boost to the country’s collective economic activities,” the statement read.

Oyetola further observed that the facility will improve overall maritime capacity and foster thousands of direct and indirect job openings, while drawing significant capital to the Niger Delta and securing Nigeria’s position as a premier West African maritime hub.

The Minister also praised Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, for his dedication to the initiative and for integrating local development strategies with national objectives.

The Agge Deep sea port is projected to open up new opportunities across several sectors including logistics, shipbuilding, fisheries, maritime operations, and tourism.
