City fan’s Arsenal bottle prank goes viral

A Manchester City supporter has gone viral after a cheeky pitchside moment during his club’s 3-0 victory over Chelsea, with the incident quickly becoming one of the talking points of the weekend.
The fan, identified as 57-year-old Tal Rehman, was spotted drinking from an Arsenal-branded bottle during the match, a gesture many interpreted as a playful jab at City’s title rivals. The moment, captured on broadcast cameras, spread rapidly online and turned him into an instant meme.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Rehman explained that the bottle was not part of a staged act but a keepsake from a previous encounter. According to him, it dated back to last season when an Arsenal physio handed it to his son near the away bench.
The viral clip, however, divided opinion among football fans. While many found the moment humorous and harmless, others questioned its authenticity, pointing to repeated camera focus on the fan during the match.
One user, @owenthfc__, expressed skepticism, writing: “When I saw it initially I found it hilarious… but when they kept putting the camera back on him… I knew something was up.”
Amid the online debate, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta downplayed the incident, refusing to give it significance.
Responding during a post-match interview, Arteta said: “One fan you mean! So one fan that says something else over 60,000 that are incredible every time at The Emirates. I don’t get moved by that.”
Despite the distraction, the result itself carried major implications in the Premier League title race, with Manchester City closing the gap on Arsenal to six points.
While the prank may have been light-hearted, it highlights how even small moments in modern football can quickly spiral into viral debates, blurring the line between spontaneity and spectacle.
