By-election: LP, ADC dead in Anambra — Soludo

...Mocks Peter Obi’s support for ADC candidates, dismisses opposition relevance

Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has dismissed the Labour Party (LP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as lacking political weight in the state, following Saturday’s by-election results.

Speaking on Sunday at a celebratory gathering in Nanka to mark the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) victories, Soludo took aim at former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, who had backed ADC candidates in the contest.

“ADC does not exist in Anambra. We proved it yesterday, Saturday. Labour Party is finished,” Soludo declared, insisting that the opposition coalition’s attempt to measure its popularity through the polls had collapsed.

He explained that APGA’s commanding win, with more than 75 per cent of the total votes, reaffirmed the party’s deeply rooted position across the state. “APGA is our movement,” he said, presenting the outcome as a clear endorsement from the electorate.

Peter Obi, who remains a leading figure in the Labour Party, had earlier aligned with the ADC coalition in an effort to challenge APGA’s dominance and to build momentum ahead of the 2027 presidential elections.

Despite his backing, the coalition was unable to gather significant support, underscoring APGA’s enduring influence over Anambra’s political landscape.
