Businessman arraigned for allegedly damaging electricity pole, signage

A 49-year-old businessman, Golden Ekezie, was on Thursday arraigned in a Life Camp Chief Magistrates’ Court, Abuja for allegedly
damaging an electricity pole and signage.
Ekezie, of Gwarinpa Estate, Abuja, was charged with reckless driving and causing an accident.
The defendant, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Prosecutor, Mrs Charity Nwachukwu, told the court that the defendant on June 18, at about 12p.m, drove a Volkswagen Passat vehicle, with registration number GWA 748 CH, in a reckless manner.
Nwachukwu alleged that in the process the defendant lost control of the car and hit an electricity pole and a signage located at house number 174th Avenue Gwarinpa, Abuja.
She alleged that the defendant badly damaged the signage and during the police investigation could not give a satisfactory account of his action.
The offences, she said, contravene the provision of sections 45 and 19 (1) of Road Traffic Law.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Musa Jobbo, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500, 000 with one surety in like sum.
Jobbo adjourned the case until Aug. 11, for hearing.
