Benue: ADC set to choose deputy governorship candidate

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Benue State has inaugurated a committee to select a running mate for its governorship candidate ahead of the upcoming general elections.

The party’s governorship candidate, Herman Hembe, a former member of the House of Representatives who represented Konshisha/Vandeikya Federal Constituency, was elected during the party’s primary election.

Following a formal request from Hembe, the party on Monday constituted a committee to carefully choose a suitable deputy governorship candidate.

Inaugurating the committee on behalf of the state chairman, the party secretary, Peter Chirzenden, said the selection process would be guided by key criteria such as integrity, democratic values, and loyalty to the party’s ideology.

He said the committee was made up of experienced and respected members tasked with ensuring a credible and strategic choice.

Chirzenden urged the committee to prioritise individuals who would strengthen the party and contribute to its growth and success in the 2027 elections.

He stressed that the running mate should not only be a placeholder but someone who understands democratic principles and can add value to the party’s vision.

Members of the committee include Senator Orke Jev, Engr. Okpe Onah, AVM Steve Onuh, Mrs Rose Ameh, Barr. Ogah Okwu, Prof. David Salifu, Hon. Jack Mulya, Mrs Abeje Egwa and Hon. Alex Igwe.

The committee has been given until June 20 to submit its report.

Chairman of the committee, Okpe Onah, assured that members would carry out their assignment diligently and select a candidate who would strengthen the party’s chances in the election.
