Bauchi fire service rescues 222 persons, saves N2.6bn in six months

The Bauchi State Fire Service has rescued 222 persons and saved properties worth N2.6 billion from fire incidents in the last six months.
Its Director-General, Mr Dauda Pali, stated this in an interview with the news reporters, on Friday in Bauchi.
He said that 11 persons lost their lives in 188 fire incidents recorded between January and June.
Pali said that the fire destroyed properties worth N268 million; 110 houses, 11 filling stations and a market stall.
He attributed the fire outbreaks to poor handling of electrical appliances, indiscriminate smoking and bush burning.
Pali said that the service was sensitising members of the public to fire prevention and control.
While urging the residents to adhere to fire safety protocols, Pali enjoined filling stations, offices and markets to install fire extinguishers to curb fire outbreaks in the state.
