The proposed University of Aviation and Aerospace said it looks forward to a robust collaboration with the International Civil Avaition Organization and other globally relevant Aviation training institutions for maximum effectiveness.
The Spokesperson for the Ministry of Aviation Mr James Odaudu made this known to Nigerian NewsDirect on Thursday.
Recall that, the Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, was presented the concept note for Nigeria’s first aviation and Aerospace University, and a provisional approval has been granted for the commencement of the institution.
Also, the Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission, Prof. Abubakar Rashee, who received the concept note from Sirika in Abuja, announced that the university would be in place by the end of the month of July.
The NUC boss assured the aviation minister that the commission would engage some professors to perfect the concept note for immediate approval, as he stressed that the value of such a university could not be quantified.
Rasheed said, “Aviation under your (Sirika) guidance will be the first to show the way for us to support the establishment of specialised university that won’t only serve us but serve the African region and the international community,” he stated.
Sirika, who was accompanied to the NUC by the aviation ministry’s permanent secretary, directors and heads of agencies, said the name of the institution is the African Aviation and Aerospace University Abuja.
He said AAAU would be dedicated to research and development of knowledge in aviation and aerospace.
According to him, “The decision to establish the specialised university was informed by the need to fill some identified gaps in the growth and development of the Aviation sector.”
Also, commenting on readiness on his agency, the Nigeria Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Spokesperson, Mr Khalid Emele, GM Public Affairs (NAMA) said, “the Aviation Aerospace University is an initiative of the Federal Ministry of Aviation.”
Khalid noted that, “The initiative is laudable.
“The Aviation industry, Nigeria and Africa stand to benefit immensely from it. The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency as an agency under the Ministry of Aviation will willingly contribute in any capacity required.
However, our efforts to reach out to the Spokesperson, Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NACAA) to ascertain its level of preparedness for the commencement of the University proved abortive.
