The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has commenced negotiations with the Federal Government over its ongoing industrial action, with the union confirming progress in several contentious areas.
In Strike Bulletin No. 2 issued by the National Strike Coordinating Committee (NSCC) and signed by Dr. Christopher Piwuna, ASUU disclosed that talks have advanced on issues including the release of third party deductions, payment of promotion arrears, mainstreaming of Earned Academic Allowances (EAA), and resolution of disputes surrounding the confiscation of University of Abuja land.
The union also noted progress in addressing cases of victimisation of its members at Kogi State University (KSU), Lagos State University (LASU), and the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO).
“Our members have shown exemplary commitment to the struggle. We must remain united and resolute in the few days ahead,” the bulletin stated.
ASUU had declared a two week warning strike last Monday, which has paralysed academic activities across public universities nationwide.
The warning strike is expected to end next week Monday, pending the outcome of ongoing negotiations.
