The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has unveiled Princess Damilola Sonayon-James as the party’s deputy governorship candidate for the 2027 general election.
According to a press release issued by the Lagos APC, Sonayon-James will run alongside the party’s governorship candidate, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, in the forthcoming election.
Announcing the decision, the Lagos State Chairman of the APC, Cornelius Ojelabi, said her emergence followed extensive consultations and a rigorous selection process that considered competence, leadership capacity, grassroots acceptance, loyalty to the party, and commitment to the development of Lagos State.
Ojelabi described Sonayon-James as a dedicated party member with a proven track record in public service, private sector engagement, and political leadership. He noted that her innovative approach, strength of character, and commitment to service distinguished her among other contenders.
The APC chairman expressed confidence in the Hamzat-Sonayon-James ticket, describing it as a blend of experience, innovation, grassroots connection, and visionary leadership capable of advancing the aspirations of Lagos residents.
He urged Lagosians to support the APC in the 2027 election, saying the party remains committed to continuity, prosperity, inclusive growth, and sustainable development.
Sonayon-James, a governance and development professional, has over 15 years of experience in public policy, institutional development, sustainability, risk governance, stakeholder engagement, and community development.
She previously served as Supervisor for Agriculture and Social Services in Badagry-West Local Council Development Area, where she championed initiatives focused on agricultural development, women empowerment, youth inclusion, education, and community welfare.
The APC said her nomination reflects the party’s commitment to inclusive leadership, youth participation, and increased representation of women in governance. It added that her emergence would further strengthen efforts to position Lagos as a leading centre for innovation, opportunity, and sustainable development in Africa.
