APC names 11 deputy directors-general for 2027 campaign

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has appointed 11 senior politicians to serve as Deputy Directors-General in different departments of its 2027 Presidential Campaign Council as the ruling party steps up preparations for the next general election.

The appointments bring together prominent figures from the National Assembly, state governments and the party’s political structure, with responsibilities ranging from mobilisation and administration to election monitoring, logistics and infrastructure.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio was appointed Deputy Director-General for South I, while Senator Opeyemi Bamidele will serve as Deputy Director-General for South II.

For the northern zones, Governor Mai Mala Buni was named Deputy Director-General for North I, while Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, will oversee North II.

Deputy Senate President Jibril Barau was appointed Deputy Director-General for North III.

The campaign council also named Senator Adams Oshiomhole as Deputy Director-General for Mobilisation, a role that places the former Edo State governor at the centre of efforts to galvanise support for the party and its presidential candidate.

Former Speaker of the House of Representatives and Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, was appointed Deputy Director-General for Administration.

Hon. James Abiodun Faleke will serve as Deputy Director-General for Election Planning, Coordination and Monitoring, while Hon. Ibrahim Kabir Masari was named Deputy Director-General for Logistics and Operations.

Another former governor, Aminu Bello Masari, was appointed Deputy Director-General for Parliamentary Mobilisation, while Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, will oversee Infrastructure, Mobilisation and Sensitization as Deputy Director-General.

The appointments are coming as political activities surrounding the 2027 presidential election continue to gather momentum, with the APC expected to rely heavily on its experienced political figures to coordinate its campaign structure across the country.

The party’s decision to distribute responsibilities among politicians from different regions also reflects the importance of regional coordination and grassroots mobilisation in a nationwide presidential contest.

The campaign structure is expected to focus on building a strong network across the six geopolitical zones while strengthening engagement with voters, political stakeholders and party members.

The inclusion of Akpabio, Oshiomhole, Gbajabiamila, Faleke, Umahi and other senior figures is also expected to give the campaign council a combination of legislative, administrative, political and organisational experience.

With the 2027 election approaching, the APC has increasingly turned its attention to strengthening its internal structures and preparing its campaign machinery.

The newly appointed officials will be expected to work with other members of the campaign council to coordinate activities and ensure that the party’s message reaches voters across the country.

The mobilisation portfolio, in particular, is expected to play a crucial role as the party seeks to consolidate its support base and attract new supporters ahead of the election.

The election planning and monitoring team will also have the responsibility of developing strategies for effective coordination before and during the polls.

Similarly, the logistics and operations team will be expected to handle the practical arrangements required for a nationwide campaign, while the infrastructure and sensitisation portfolio will focus on linking development achievements with the party’s campaign message.

The appointments further signal that preparations for the 2027 presidential election are moving into a more organised phase, with the APC assembling a team of experienced political actors ahead of what is expected to be a competitive contest.

As the campaign machinery takes shape, attention will now turn to how the newly appointed Deputy Directors-General translate their respective mandates into effective grassroots mobilisation and a coordinated nationwide campaign.
