an orchestra of bloom

an orchestra of bloom

By Muheez Olawale

absence & silence weigh the same
in poetry
and in the anaconda thread
of one-way conversations.

a thousand angels twinkle in the night sky
and this is how heaven announces
the return of the beloved
melodies riding cold breeze into somnolence.

the ascension falls a day too early
and it’s a one-way conversation
with god but i know he’s thinking
i’d always want you

for one more day till the world
run out of days, till time lay waste
to every memory we once wielded
in kisses and promises.

ease your hands into mine—
one final struggle before the chorus
of trumpets drag you in,
before gravity weakens and watches you leave

forever.
because you were too perfect
even god got jealous
and took you for himself.
