Victims cry out for justice over murdered lawyer’s death

6 May 2026

Months after the assassination of Olufemi Tajudeen Idris, Esq., the legal counsel for youth leader Abidemi Akinlade, no arrests have been made, leaving the victims without justice and the key witness in grave danger.

Idris was murdered in a machete attack at his residence on March 6. The killing is widely viewed as a calculated strike to cripple the pursuit of justice for Honourable Hassan Olajuwon.

Despite public outcry, authorities have made no visible progress, raising concerns of a deliberate delay in accountability.

With his lawyer silenced, the spotlight has returned to Abidemi Akinlade, who remains in hiding.

Akinlade has faced a series of life-threatening events, including an attack on his brother, Olusegun Akinlade, and repeated attempts on his own life. Without legal representation or state protection, observers warn that Akinlade is now dangerously exposed, particularly as upcoming elections heighten political tensions.

Human rights advocates are calling for immediate intervention, warning that the failure to bring Idris’s killers to justice has emboldened assailants.

They stress that protecting Akinlade is vital, not only for his survival but to ensure that the truth regarding the case of Honourable Hassan Olajuwon is not permanently buried.

As the silence from law enforcement continues, many fear that Akinlade is living on borrowed time in an increasingly volatile landscape.
