President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reiterated the Federal Government’s dedication to supporting the Nigeria Police Force in maintaining a secure environment ahead of the 2027 General Elections.
Declaring open the sixth Conference and Retreat for Senior Police Officers in Owerri, Imo State, the President who was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume highlighted the critical need for professionalism, intelligence-led operations, and robust inter-agency coordination.
The event, themed “Developing a Nigeria Police Roadmap for Effective Management of Security During Elections,” also coincided with the International Day of Peace.
In his address, Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu unveiled a comprehensive six-pillar framework designed to guide police operations through the electoral cycle.
The strategy emphasizes strengthened intelligence and early-warning systems, intensive training and preparedness, joint command cooperation, technological communication deployment, community partnerships, and strict institutional neutrality.
The IGP warned that any officer found engaging in partisan behavior, voter intimidation, or the abuse of police powers will face strict disciplinary measures.
He announced that the force will launch a dedicated public election complaints line on October 12, 2026, to bolster transparency and responsiveness.
The host Governor Hope Uzodimma praised the police for sustaining the strategic forum, while the opening ceremony drew a high-profile delegation including representatives of the President of the Senate, the House of Representatives, the Minister of Interior, various service chiefs, heads of paramilitary agencies, and former Inspectors-General of Police.
