A Magistrates’ Court in Jos on Tuesday sentenced a 19-year-old technician, Abdulrahaman Adamu to 18 months imprisonment for swindling his debtor.
Adamu pleaded guilty to breach of trust and cheating.
The Magistrate, Mrs Irene Pati, however gave Adamu an option of N80,000 fines for the two counts.
Pati also ordered Adamu to pay N250,000 in compensation to the complainant.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Ibrahim Gokwat told the court that the case was reported in Aug.29, at the “A” Division police station by Adamu Abubakar, the complainant.
Gokwat said the convict was given an iPhone 11, worth N250,000, as collateral for a loan of N30,000, which the complainant was expected to repay the next day.
The prosecutor said that the convict sold the phone for N150,000, the next day, before the agreed time for repayment of the loan.
He said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 325 of the Plateau Penal Code Law.
