National Democratic Congress (NDC) Presidential candidate, Peter Obi has queried the continued absence of Nigeria’s President from the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), drawing comparisons with regional leaders on the global stage.
In a statement on Sunday, Obi pointed to the address delivered by Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama at the 81st UN General Assembly session, praising his leadership and substance.
Contrasting this with Nigeria’s representation, Obi raised concerns over the absence of Africa’s most populous nation’s leader from three consecutive UNGA gatherings.
While acknowledging that Vice President Kashim Shettima attended the high-level global meeting to represent the country, Obi emphasized the necessity of presidential presence on the international stage, particularly during a period marked by significant domestic and global challenges.
He concluded by calling on Nigerians to pray for the nation’s leadership and ongoing efforts to overcome current socioeconomic hurdles.
