Former Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, has withdrawn from the Accord Party governorship primary in Oyo State, citing the alleged manipulation of the party’s structure and growing violence within its ranks.
Owoseni, who also served as Security Adviser to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, announced his decision in a statement released on Tuesday through his X account.
According to him, recent developments within the party have created an environment that is no longer conducive to pursuing his governorship ambition on the Accord Party platform.
Addressing party members and supporters, Owoseni said he was making the decision with a heavy but resolute heart, stressing that the interests of Oyo State and democratic principles remain paramount.
He alleged that internal processes within the party had been compromised, making it difficult for a transparent and credible primary election to take place.
He also expressed concern over what he described as increasing acts of violence and intimidation among party stakeholders.
The former police commissioner noted that his withdrawal should not be interpreted as a retreat from public service, adding that he remains committed to contributing to the development and progress of Oyo State.
His exit is expected to reshape the dynamics of the Accord Party’s governorship race ahead of the election.
